As you probably know there is a website called Petition Online which host loads of most probably useless petitions.

Here is the latest one (hoping its a joke)

To: Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema
Those of us who have seen The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring know what an amazing director Peter Jackson is. When I learned that there apparently was to be a sequel, I was overjoyed. However, Peter Jackson has decided to tastelessly name the sequel "The Two Towers". The title is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center. In this post-September 11 world, it is unforgiveable that this should be allowed to happen. The idea is both offensive and morally repugnant. Hopefully, when Peter Jackson and, more importantly, New Line Cinema see the number of signatures on this petition, the title will be changed to something a little more sensitive.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

Anybody who is offended that a director actually wants to be loyal to the author and trilogy by using the same title name for the movie despite Sept. 11th needs to freakin' relax! That is where political correctness has gone way too far. Arguably the best fantasy trilogy ever written, and done a half century ago, and people want the movie named changed!

Not trying to belittle Sept. 11th, but the world (for most people) does not revolve around this date, and I believe changing the name would be a bigger travesty to Tolkien and his family. This PC stuff just drives me crazy, sepecially when it comes to messing with the Tolkien trilogy. I can't believe that many people actually signed the petition.

I think the petitioners are absolutely right! I think we should petition the planet Earth to remove the following words from any and all langauges, lest it offend any human, animal or plant.
"Towers"
"Two"
"Twin"
"World"
"Trade"
"Center"

Good Christ! Is this the best thing these people have to do?

FROM THE PETITION ONLINE WEBSITE..

""Please Note: The Two Towers is the title of the JRR Tolkien book originally published in 1954, the second book of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The title was thus established some 47 years prior to the attacks on the World Trade Center towers, and there is no evidence to suggest that Peter Jackson meant anything by continuing the same title other than faithfulness to the beloved Tolkien classics. Furthermore, the two distant, opposing towers in the Tolkien classic have very little if anything in common with the two matching towers of the World Trade Center. — PetitionOnline.com""

LMAO! My friend and I were joking after Fellowship Of The Ring came out, about how someone, somewhere would get offended by "The Two Towers" and there would be a huge media frenzy and New Line would change the title just to shut everyone up, but that would cause another controversy and we would be caught in this mess... but I assured him that people really aren't that stupid.

This is just as absurd as people demanding that Milton Bradley yank all of their "Jenga" games from store shelves.

>>Update, 2002.0509: This petition has been suspended temporarily due to a lack of maintenance [read: intelligence] by the petition author. ? PetitionOnline.com<<

PS- Sorry for the double-post Brad! I got an "illegal operation" when submitting the other one and it didn't appear... Please delete the previous one.

Janga isn't that where you build some sort of 'tower' out of wooden bricks or something and then let it fall down.

If you actually look at the signatures, it seems to be mostly people agreeing with us. They're mostly calling the originator an idiot.

Yes, that's what Jenga is. I forogot, but now that you mention it, I remember what it is. Thomas, were you just making up an absurd example, or have people actually asked for it to be pulled?

Some of those signatures are hilarious! My favorite:

This has to be the single stupidest petition ever concieved. The moron who thought this up is an obviously illiterate ape who doesn't deserve to live, let alone get access to a computer.

I sure hope I just made up an absurd example! (Which is what I meant to do).

Yes, Jenga is the "game of skill and determination" where you stack up a tower of blocks and people take turns removing them and stacking them on top, making the tower more unstable as the game goes on. You have to try and not be the one who makes the tower collapse.

I heard someone who signed the petition said "I won't even let my 2 twin sons stand next to each other out of respect for 9/11!"
