OK, so we've got scope and flat. Our scope is the correct ratio, however, our flat lens is too small so we crop top and bottom a tad. Question: Given the choice, would you go 5mm larger on the flat lens to bring the ratios into line thus having a slightly smaller flat picture, or would you lift the masking up a bit (we can, there's screen behind it) and set it to the larger lens size for flat and go 5mm smaller on scope even if it then meant you'd be cropping a little on the sides. (We can't move sides out any further). Your opinions please...

I'd keep scope as it is, and show the full 2.39:1 aspect ratio "wall-to-wall". Ideally match the image height for both 2.39:1 and 1.85:1 (fixed top and bottom masking, adjustable side masking). If you insist on having a higher 1.85:1 image, err on the side of a longer lens and less magnification. In any case, show the full aspect ratio, and don't crop the image. Use the SMPTE 35-PA (RP40) test film to verify projected image area.------------------ John P.
