Yesterday, while waiting in the lobby for the Grinch (funny movie), I saw the projectionist kid walk in the front door with about a 2foot diameter hoop wrapped with 5 or 6 inches of film and clamped a couple times. These folks have another theatre about an hour's drive away. What was he carrying the film on? It seem bigger than a centre ring of a platter, but perhaps not.

Sounds like "the projectionist kid" was moving a made-up feature from another theatre.

AFAIK, most platter center hubs are usually about 16-inches in diameter, not 24-inches. A 5 or 6 inch pack of film would be a fairly short feature.

As discussed in other threads, carrying a full feature alone, without support or other protection, is like Russian Roulette: five times out of six you get away with it, but it will eventually make a big mess on the floor!

At least the film was clamped. Hopefully, the roll was protected from dirt in his vehicle, and the weather.

Could've been one of Christie's or Strong's extra large 19 inch center rings.

Napanee, and the more I think of it, it must've been trailers, it being Sunday and all movies had been there for 3 days. Not saying anything bad about the theatre, the picture was good, and the peeks into the booths showed them to be neat and tidy. 3 auditoriums of about 110 seats. One I was in had a 14 foot screen.
