The SMPTE does have a standard for shipping reels (SMPTE 192), but no one seems to follow it anymore, usually trying to reduce the unit cost. The split apart reels were invented to cut down on labor costs at the exchange, so film on cores from the labs doesn't have to be wound onto the old style reels. You get what you pay for. ------------------ John P. Regaurding these type reels...My favorite rule of thumb is....You see,you drill. The next guy (or gal) putting the thing together will love ya for it. If the exchange sees enough of it,maybe they'll think humm...lots of modified reels there must be a problem. Not likely, but could happen. --Chris
