All 9 reels will go on a 36” diameter tower spool easily. However if you do decide to have an intermission!Intermission is to be in the most appropriate place at the end of reel 5. Part One – Reels 1 to 5: runs 83 mins. 50 secs. Part Two – Reels 6 to 9: runs 68 mins. 15 secs. Cast list (inclusive is 8 mins.) You will need to contact Warner Bros. for a customised Harry Potter Intermission title. We changed our minds and decided to run straight through due to the length of the entire programme plus 25 minutes opening time because of no advance booking.

I use 36” diameter spools with 8” hubs, and there is still over 1” space left on the spool, so 10” hubs should also be alright to use. On the front of Harry Potter I have 30’ of black spacing for automation timing plus 70’ of academy leader, protection and lacing stock.Pete: I’m not familiar with DGBs. I do have one 36" Cinemeccanica easyspool which I have never used and the hub is 11-3/4” so perhaps Harry Potter would be too tight or oversize.

AFAIK, reel change locations are an editorial decision, hopefully made on the basis of not disrupting the continuity with a reel change. There may be other factors that may influence the decision, such as not having completed a section of the final edit, but wanting the give the lab some reels to start printing as deadlines approach.------------------ John P. Someone once surmised that once all the shot footage comes to the editor, he and the director go over it and make their first shot at a finished film. Then, it's divided up into reels and c/o cues are added so test screenings can be run. After that, it is usually edited more, so some reels then become less than 20 min. long.I also heard that editors dislike projectionists. Editors are upset that they spend so much time putting peices of film together, while some projectionists take peices of film out. I have heard that an editor who manages to put c/o marks during bright, flashing scenes (like in a disco) with the camera flying around, gets a free year of union dues. I also wish to go on record protesting the current practise of placing good looking, naked babes in the lower, left side of the frame during c/o time.
