WB's pre-1948 shorts and features catalog was purchased in 1957 by AAP and as many of you know, the cartoons (Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies) had a short "AAP" logo at the beginning.

Has anyone ever seen the version of the logo before the feature-length Warner Bros. movies? If so, a description and maybe even a picture would be fantastic!

I always thought the AAP logo was for the television syndication version of the cartoon (AAP had the TV syndication license, and television is the *ONLY* place I have EVER seen the AAP logo). Additionally it was on the TV prints of 'Popeye' cartoons (Paramount theatrical distribution).

Guys, I used to have a 1200' 16mm reel of nothing but AAP logos that were removed from our Warner cartoons that we ran back in the '70's. By removing the logo, not only did one not have to hear the theme twice, but you gained 12 seconds per cartoon to use for more commercials!

I'd hate to be the one that had to physically splice the AAP footage into those IB Warner cartoons. When Turner got them, didja notice how the AAP logo had gone purple while the cartoon was still glorious?

I was under the impression that the feature version of the aap logo was strictly for TV distribution, but for those who haven't seen it it's excellent (IMHO). It's an animated "atom" pattern where each of the three ovals comprising the design forms itself in succession to a very rhythmical kettle drum beat. At the conclusion of each oval forming itself there's a cymbal crash as the letters a, a, and p appear in the foreground. Very clever and professional for a cheesy rerelase outfit. I've got several 16mm Bogart features with the logo, and will try to shoot one if I can figure out how to use my son's digital camera! To my knowledge, it only exists in B/W, as even color features were released to TV in B/W in those days.
