I have the older-style framing assembly on my XL's and I need to replace the gaskets, etc. The small-sided ones are still in the new manual, so I'm sure I can get them (P-1752&1754). But what of the larger ones on the other side? Does anyone know if they are still available (P-2665&2879)? Or is the solution replacing with the newer assembly? I need the friction washers because now there are none! Could I fab-up a larger friction washer using fibre-cloth (sandpaper)? How much friction are they supposed to provide? Thank you.

The older XL parts are stocked by Edward H. Wolk Company.

Dave,
As Ken stated all gaskets are avalible from Wolk. There is no tension adjustment on the framing shaft itself. All gaskets (rubber washers)and spacers (steel thin washers) need to be in their proper place. I would suggest staying with the normal rubber washers to help seal any oil leaks from the shaft. There are no special friction washers. Tension is set with a combination of componants. Framing shaft, intermittent carrage, and shutter compensator all aid in setting framing tension.

Dave, It is a VERY good idea to replace the framing sector clamps with the newer spring style clamps when you remove the shutter drive assy. These will prevent any uneven wear on the carrige causing the framing to slip out of frame. Also, when this carrige wears the solid clamps are about impossibe to get adjusted in correctly. The new parts should cost less than 5 bucks!

Thanks fellows, I was worried when I looked at the new (97) Simplex manual and it looked nothing like my assembly. Had to go back to the older one. Mark, I can see exactly what you mean with the older set-up, the stiff spring and much beefier washer/gasket on the one side (combined with NO spring on the other) has absolutely CHEWED up the smaller ones on the gear side. Assuming everything fits, I'll just update to the newer style...Thanks again.

Dave:

That's why there are several versions of the manuals posted here. Different vintage projectors sometimes require the use of a different vintage manual (plus sometimes the pictures are better in the old manual).
