Hi guys
Theres a WESTAR 105 35mm Sound Xenon Movie Projector available on an auction site and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this unit both good or bad.
Wondering if it throws a steady image. It looks very portable and would work well for me because of my limited space.

Regards!

It looks very like a Chinese portable machine I saw a couple of years ago. Whether it is the same machine re-badged, or the Chinese one is a copy, I don't know. The one I saw had been converted to Dolby stereo, and used halogen lighting, but the owner said that there was a xenon version available, I think he said there was a double band version as well. The machine seemed to work pretty well, nice steady picture. Main disadvantages, it was quite heavy, you wouldn't want to carry it very far, or up lots of flights of stairs. Of course, the xenon version would be heavier. The spool boxes are only 2000 feet, most modern portables can take 6000, you could probably get it to work with a tower or platter, but then it's hardly portable, is it?

My main interest is in documentary film, almost everything I have in my collection is between 1000 and 2000 feet, so it would be ideal for me, if I had either the space, or the money, but maybe not so good if you want to run features. Then again, running features on 35mm is always going to mean either large spools, two machines or a platter, none of which are very portable.

I sell the unit also in conjunction with a Spanish manufacturer which we supply with 6000 foot reel arms. The Shanghai Harvest machine has been made for over 20 years with over 4000 units in operation. The xenon model from the factory is 1000 watt which is good for a 23 foot scope image. We have options available with stereo reverse scan, 2000 watt xenon, large reel transport and custom projection stands. The head is about 70 pounds, the rectifier is about 60 pounds, the projector tripod stand is 35 pounds. The basic unit also has a 100 watt mono sound system and speaker and runs on 12 amperes 195 - 240 VAC 50 or 60HZ.

Checking the auction site, the buy it now price for the package is very good. At ShowEast last week another projector company's engineers thought the unit was nice for the intended use and they could not copy even at the normal price.
