I wanted to know how to hook up an external equalizer for the surround channel of a CP50. Would you use the output to surround adaptor and input from surround adaptor? Any help would be appreciated.

To keep things simple I'd just run the output through a 1/3 octave EQ, then into the power amp. Since most EQ's operate at unity gain, or have a unity gain setting they have tremendous overload capability and I doubt that you'd overdrive it.

There have been many Dolby E2 equalizer units kicking around ebay at the moment try to get one of those as it uses the same eq as the cp50

So the dolby E2 would allow me to EQ the surrounds with a CAT64 card just like the screen channels.

Yes, an E2 is a 1U tall rack unit which holds a single Cat.64 card.
