I have a 35mm Moviola UD-20-S that I need to get up and running. However, the oil points have all gone dry.

The 35 year old manualstates it needs oil lubrication that is...

"of No. 0 or less consistancy, containing the following; Four to Five percent calcium soap base and the balance of oil of 74 seconds SSU at 210(degrees)F. Pennzoil No. 307, or equivalent, is satisfactory for this application."

What type of lubricant found today is the equivalent?

I have "3-IN-ONE" SAE 20 Motor Oil on hand. It is used for electric and combustion motors. Is this sufficient?

I am told a place in California may sell this special cocktail but I'd like to see if I can get an oil locally and at less an expense before calling.

Will "3-IN-ONE" help or hurt my machine?

Hi,

Moviola (phone 323-467-3107) may be able to help.

I am very interested in knowing what you end up using. I have the same problem.

I'm also interested in a manual if you know of any available.

Henry.

Thanks for the tip.

From the looks of their site I assumed they were out of the 35mm film editor business.

The manuals can be found on eBay. Expensive reprints but invaluable.

I was told by one film editor renter in California that the oil points can be lubricated with 5w 20 car motor oil or "Spindel" machine oil.

The intermittant assembly still needs to be filled with a special mixture, however.

"of No. 0 or less consistancy, containing the following; Four to Five percent calcium soap base and the balance of oil of 74 seconds SSU at 210(degrees)F. Pennzoil No. 307, or equivalent, is satisfactory for this application."

I just joined a classic auto forum and will ask for the modern equivalant of the above recipe.

Maybe I can mix my own oil and save a few $$ before contacting Moviola.
