-Hello friends and colleagues,

I searched for info. regarding the introduction of LPP print stock on 35mm.
I have a 35mm print of "TOOTSIE"-1982 at hand which puzzles me. The color is excellent and the blacks are black.
The stock just says "Eastman" no indication of LPP...
Could this be an early LPP print without the marking?
Do you know if some titles where printed in LPP without the marking at an early stage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Jerry Axelsson

During that period of time, edgeprint was printed at the film slitter. Changing the edgeprint required changing a stencil on the slitter. In the early days of the transition to the LPP product when there was a mix of products being slit, the stencil may not have always been changed, as it took the slitter out of production for several hours. Of course, turning off the stencil light would mean no edgeprint was printed.

Great info John. I have two trailers from '82 that are clearly Eastman color-fast that don't have LPP on them. Another mystery solved! Thanks.

A few other titles I've seen that have mixed reels (some with LPP markings some just with Eastman) are Return of the Jedi and The Thing. Interestingly enough, the reels without the LPP markings have started to fade.

Hey Jerry!

John can always be counted on for good advise. But the real reason I'm responsing is to question the word "Early" in the title of this thread. Early in '82? I was running Eastman film in the '50s. C'mon Sonny, give me a break! I feel old enough as it is.

He said early "LPP", which was introduced that year, not early Eastman.

Yeah...in 1982...it was hit and miss as to what was low-fade and what was Robert's flavor of Eastman!

I'm surprised that by 1983 there was any Eastman fast-fade stock still around (referring to "Jedi" which was released in 1983).
