Can anyone recommend the best text or source for learning the overall technical aspects of digital cinema (with regard to theatrical exhibition)?

Find a tech that is willing to "break" you in on this, plus have a great deal of computer/IT savvy.

No text that I am aware of. If you are speaking from an operational standpoint and if you're more than three years old you can operate at least the Dolbby stuff. If from a technical standpoint then a basic IT technology class at a Junior College would be a good place to start. Once you get used to general IT stuff the rest is easy.
