"We" do apologize for the rather "red" print of "Apocalypse Now" we had to run. From the edge codes, this print was an "original" print, from 1979, which was, of course, when the Kodak dyes were about the *worst*, in terms of fading characteristics...
Apparently, there were 1 or 2 prints made later, like in 1982 or so, that were on "low fade"-type stock. American Zoetrope (the original producing company) told us they didn't want to circulate their print any more, and we were directed to the University of North Carolina, whose print was, they said, of "unknown" quality.
We asked. We were told it was "red shifted" a bit (which is a rather odd term, for archival prints), but we decided to run it, based on that description, and considering the rarity of seeing it in 70mm. Maybe that decision was not such a great idea, but it's too late now! In terms of the full sound playback, it was fine, even with the split surround. (We played it that way, though the "split" part of it was, to my ears, on the subtle side...)
The other things running in our current 70mm series are much more presentable, so please don't give up!
The print of "Khartoum", (which is a bit of a "wannabe" follow-up to "Lawrence of Arabia") will be presented in the correct 2.76:1 aspect ratio of true Ultra Panavision, as we did a few years ago for "Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".
It was some fun getting these lenses all set up, so I hope the audience enjoys (and appreciates) the effort!
