I recently acquired an iPhone, and I found an RTA application...

iPhone RTA

The software claims you can calibrate the microphone.

I guess I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Is it a total waste of ten bucks? If I were to buy the software I don't have access to a standalone RTA to compare the results.

It also says it has a pink noise generator that you can use by plugging into the headphone jack.

It might be a little difficult to use for cinema screens, but might be an easy way to check on things.

I have heard very good things about it and for $10...how far wrong can you go?

There is another app due out for the latest iPhones that will allow one to used calibrated mics and such...seems very promising.

If you have an iPhone...it is probably worth while for spot checks and such...again...for $10, how far wrong can you go?

ihave one and use it frequently. ialso got the signal generator and SPL meter apps and ithink ispent 20 bucks total. The RTA and SPL apps can be calibrated for level even when using the internal iphone mics. You just need a known calibrated RTA to compare it to in order to set it. i'm still awaiting the calibrated mic they talked about on the release of this app but ihaven't seen it yet... Have fun with yours!!!

My only fear is that for ten bucks it could do more harm than good if it miss leads me. However, from time to time i may have access to an RTA to calibrate it. I guess I'll pick it up and fiddle with it until it earns my faith.

Check out the SPL meter as well... ibelieve it's cheaper and it's also very useful for checking system balance....

Okay, this RTA is pretty neat. Pretty easy to figure it out too. So far all I've concluded is that my PC speakers have massive pockets in the spectrum...

I know its been a while since the last post here, but I'm curious if anyone has tried out the RTA and Scope for the Android phones? I'm curious if they are accurate or not? I really don't want an iPhone at this point and want to stick with my Android

Iv tried them and they seem to be somewhat accurate, but I have no way to check at the moment. And I have an RTA and SPL, both can be calibrated and were free with the option to buy

Cool. I'm wondering how they might be used in a theater environment?

Don't forget a good telescope to see the results on the screen, because you ARE NOT just setting that by an open port window!
