I've been waiting for a while for a new sound processor to show up, but it's been on backorder for a while.

I decided to hookup our DTS processor by making my own cables. The cable we received with the DTS unit is for the new processor, not our existing USL JS105/195.

To start, I installed the timecode reader and connected it to the XD10. I do get the correct timecode for the print and reel playing. The green TIMECODE LED lit, but the blue DTS PLAYBACK LED did not.

Next, I hooked up the XD10 automation lines to the JS105/195. Interestingly, pin 13 on the DTS unit is labeled as USER SUPPLY, which I believe the manual says needs to be a +5-+15 volt supply on the processor side and is required for status feedback (Appendix A-3). However, looking at the breakout board shown on drawing E706 in Appendix B of the manual, it doesn't appear that anything is connected that would provide power to pin 13.

So, I basically wired everything except pin 13.

From the XD10, I can pulse every audio format on the JS105/195, but the XD10 never enters PLAYBACK mode, nor does it pulse to Ext/Mag when timecode is running. I've set the appropriate (I believe) options to emulate a DTS-6AD.

Note that I have not as yet connected the analog outs on the XD10 to the JS105/195. That shouldn't have anything to do with the XD10 not going to PLAYBACK, right?

Any thoughts on the lack of DTS PLAYBACK? A related question, if no cabling beyond the timecode cable is connected to the XD10, should the unit enter PLAYBACK mode when timecode is running?

Anyone know what actually triggers the PLAYBACK mode?

Ooops, never mind. About 30 minutes after I posted, I decided to double check the features loaded on the XD10 and, lo and behold, MegaMind wasn't there. &*$%

I specifically remember loading the discs, but then something happened (I can't remember what) and I put the discs away to load later.

Oh well, at least I've got timecode and automation now. Just need to run the analog connectors and set the levels.
