We have recently upgraded to a CP-650 from a CP-55. It has been running fine for the past few months but recently, right before a show the center channel stopped working. We noticed this when we turned it on before the show, and did not hear anything or see any activity on the center speaker amp. This was while the processor was running in Non-sync with Pro-logic/SW but the center channel was also absent in all the other formats. We were able to run the movie by running the processor in bypass which successfully passed signal through to the center channel. Afterwards we reverted back to normal mode and attempted some troubleshooting using the pink noise generator in the CP-650 as well as trying other formats, but it still failed to output anything on the center channel.

We checked all of the wiring between the DB-25 connector on the back of the processor up to the amps and confirmed that everything after the connector is working. At this point we believe the problem is internal to the CP-650, possibly somewhere on the output side because the center channel bar graph on the LCD screen is still indicating a signal, even though we can’t hear anything. Since the processor was working fine during the show the day before, it seems more likely that the the processor is at fault.

Has anyone heard of this problem before? What steps can we take to fix this?

Markus

Is this a NEW CP650? If so, talk to your dealer and have Tech-Support get in on this. Then it will likely be a matter of changing out one module (likely the input/output board...it is the analog portion of the processor).

If it is used...then you can still go through tech-support but there will be a cost for the RXO or repair of the board. Conversely, you may find there are other CP650s now available for low cost to be a parts source.
