Did anyone else catch the supposedly restored Universal Holmes films that TCM ran last night? When I heard they were being restored I was anxious to see the outcome, acknowledging the hell that those elements had been through with endless re-releases over the years. Honestly, I was quite disappointed. There was very little grey scale, a number of visible splices, and on "Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon" the sound was dull with a terrible wow whenever any music was present. Watchable, of course. A quality restoration, no. Frankly, my 16mm ex-TV prints look better title for title.

10 minutes of Secret was more time that would want to waste...it was technically a poor job for TCM. TV-Land channel overall quality with the at times jerky high compression and lack of grey scale is also unwatchable; especially since I have seen old 16mm prints with much better quality.
