Maybe because the Hammer Films were more Graphic and in Color also. First remember seeing him as a Kid watching "Horror of Dracula"(1958) Seemed like Lee and Peter Cushing were part of the modern Horror Film of the 60's that really captivated an audience...R.I.P.
