Did any of you all know if there was a 7.1 mix on this movie. It has the immersive sound systems (both Auro and Atmos), it has 4K for 2D (and 2K for 3D)...but I've yet to see a drive that has a 7.1 mix. The Auro versions have a 5.1 LPCM mix. Perhaps the Atmos versions had the 7.1 back ups?

I called up DeLuxe on this and this is all what came out was the 5.1 what I was told, where I have ATMOS.

I just about ingested the aura file instead of the ATMOS file being got too accustomed with just ATMOS content only.

There is no 7.1.

I'm surprised. Such a tent pole movie with immersive audio...you'd think they would want the best of the conventional mixes to fall back on.

Sony hasn't really warmed up to the fact that 7.1 actually exists, I think the only two features that come to mind being released in 7.1 was the last 'Underworld' movie (which wasn't Atmos) and 'Elysium'. Of the couple Atmos mixed films that were created from 5.1 mixes that I have heard, they have yet to impress me when compared to the 7.1 ones that throw a lot of sound directly behind you.

Spiderman 2 had quite a bit of rear surround activity. But then I watched it in Dolby Atmos.

It also has that activity in 5.1... This movie was just made for 5.1 and perhaps later converted to Atmos but even in 5.1 it was not quite impressive when it comes to sound quality. At some moments it was even unclear with the dialogues which channel it should use it seemed.
When it comes to visual it was amazing, when it comes to audio I expected a lot better.

Joris.. the film was mixed natively in Atmos.

Jonathan.... AFAIK, I mixed the only film that was upmixed after the fact from an original 5.1 mix ("The Heat.")

Every other film that didn't start natively did start as 7.1 before the Atmos up-mix.

Why Sony didn't release the 7.1 is surprising... since they had a native Atmos recorder, the RMU easily outputs a 7.1 down mix, and the channel bed is 9.1 to start with.. might have been time constraints, might have been inventory concerns... but I'd be willing to be there is indeed a 7.1 master, and that a near field version of it will make it's way to BR.

Ugh. Fucking near field remixing bullshit.

Screw the original mix! Let's kill the dynamic range and try to make it sound good on crappy little home speakers that have absolutely no standards.
