We were made aware of a "red dot" on the screen during a show of Carol today. We rebooted the server, cleaned the portal and tried again but the issue persisted. Could this be a dead pixel? The dot remains during in house created slides.

Run the test pattern "alternating checkerboard" overnight - no need to have the lamp on, just projector powered & awake with that pattern selected.
If the stuck pixel remains stuck on after that, light engine replacement will be required to fix it.

Is the projector under 2-years old? If so (particularly if it is nearing 2-years), you would have a warranty claim.

Sounds very like a stuck pixel.

I've changed four light engines on two S series machines.

Be aware that that technician needs to change a filter in the light pipe which is particular to the individual light engine and also install the LUT-SCC file which again is unique to every light engine.

It doesn't come out like any other Barco cinema projector. The light pipe stays put, the prism & DMDs come out, more akin to a Christie design.

Thanks for the helpful info all! Is the "alternating checkerboard" test image available for download online? I'll check into our warranty status and may need to schedule a technician to do this job as I am still getting my feet and would love to learn by watching first.

it should be already available on your Barco machine.

Replacing a light engine is not something I would recommend anybody but a qualified engineer to do. Always nice meeting someone curious who wants to learn new things though! [Smile]

Check your warranty and make a claim straight away if you are close to the end of it!

"Alternating Checkerboard" is in "test patterns" but you have to select it from the list - it isn't one of the thumbnails.

It looks like we are out of warranty though looking into extended warranty options. I am also scheduling a tech to perform Maintenance Type C. I'll watch like a hawk and learn what to do next year. Thanks for the help all!
