Hello,

We are chasing a quote for a replacement screen, we are looking at a 10 metre wide, perforated screen and whilst I am waiting for the quote I am desperate for an estimate of how much this will cost.

Could anyone suggest what we would be looking at in the UK for this?

Many thanks

Reeves

First of all - do you operate/plan to operate a 3D system? Which? What projector/max bulb type do you use?

Which screen manufacturer have you requested? Don't play cheap on a screen. Get the best, or you will regret it for years and years. A friend was persuaded into a low-cost screen, and now he and his patrons are seeing those bad seams day in, day out...

As you are from the UK, the choice is obvious - Harkness!

If you are not a regular reader - sign up for cinema technology magazine, you will find loads of integrators and other business contacts in it to get quotes.

Our screen is just over 9 meters wide and cost about $2500 USD installed, in 2010. Our auditorium is rated "huge pain in the butt" for screen installations (Just ask Mark Gulbrandsen) so our labor cost might have been a little higher than a typical cinema.

Our screen sheet was changed last year, Matt White Mini-Perf, 8.2m x 3.43m scope is largest picture, around £1600-£1700 ex.VAT from memory installed.

We had quotes for a 9m x 4.2m screen couple of months back, it was something like £1k for white, £3k silver and almost £4k for Clarus XC20 (we're trying to decide whether to keep 3D in that auditorium or not hence the white & silver quotes!)

We had a screen 16'2" (493cm) by 41'6" (1,265 cm) replaced with Perlux 140 following an accident last summer that put a tear in it - total cost, including screen, delivery and installation was just over $10k (GBP 7,012).

That was probably inflated by a higher than average shipping cost, though, because the screen had to be shipped from VA to CA.

Wow! Not cheap. Does 'Perlux 140' mean this was a Harkness screen?
