The button is still there, but nothing happens when I push it - on both the projector and the VNC viewer.

What's up with that?

Looks like we'll have to get a new TPC. Anyone else ever have this happen? Everything else on the TPC works fine, but because the Menu button has gone to hell, we're unable to really do anything at all. Any help would be much appreciated.

If you can't push the button when logged in through VNC then that eliminates a hardware problem (like a dead spot on the touch screen).

Could it be the software of the screen itself? Not a dead spot, per se, but some sort of corrupted software in the screen? I don't what the hell else it could be, and without being able to access the menu, there's nothing I can really investigate.

I'm guessing you power cycled the TPC?

While I don't think it will help try doing a screen calibration in the administration>preferences menu.

Also it is possible to get just the memory card with program from Christie.

He can't push the menu button so he can't get there.

It's not a screen calibration issue anyway since he can't do it with VNC either.

Do you really need a complete TPC?? As you cannot click on it via VNC this is not a HW issue. Just get a new CF card (unless there's a way to reinstall Windows on that thing).

Replacing the whole thing seems a little overkilled to me.

Well, it's in there now. I don't know. Can someone point me in the direction of the card, or do I even want to know at this point? I did as much research as I could on the thing, went down the right channels, and all I got was that I need a new TPC, so I took it, for what it's worth.

It is on the left side edge. Depending on model it is right there on the newer ones or behind a light grey door on the older ones. It could still be a hardware problem too.

Stephan,

It's a Windows computer. The Menu button is a software thing. If it does not work on VNC either, it's not the touchpanel. If the unit boots up correctly it has to be a software issue.

If tomorrow your Star menu disappears from your Windows Desktop PC, are you throwing away the hole computer or are you reinstalling Windows? [Smile]

The software is on the memory card on the side. It can be purchased separately from Christie. While it is windows it is very customized for the projector. One needs to get to the menu to reinstall the software. So get a replacement memory card from Christie.

Hmmm....I know one can, via VNC get to te XP environement without getting to the menu since I've had clients do it by mistake. That is, they forget that the VNC is active (and the currently selected window) and then find themselves in the XP login screen for administrator. However, once there, I'm not quite sure what one would do to fix the problem unless it is a software corruption thing where files are missing/corrupt and they could possibly copy those files from a known good one. Or maybe execute a "restore" , if that works in this modified version of XP.

I believe it's by plugging a keyboard and pressing the WINDOWS key. That should bring up the OS's start menu.
Alternatively, use Windows-E to open Windows Explorer.

I'm sure there is an easy way to just reinstall the TCP software but I do not know that.
