New Hampshire's oldest movie theater is for sale! We've been located at 6 School Street in historic downtown Peterborough since 1914. A complete historical summary can be found here on the theater's web site (pctmovies.com).
Our theater is widely known for showing first-run movies (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, La La Land, Star Wars, Moonlight, Minions, etc.), as well as limited-run documentaries (Eva Hesse, I Am Not Your Negro, Seeds, David Lynch: The Art Life, etc.). In 2015 and 2016 we were awarded Monadnock Shopper News' 3rd place for Best Movie Theater.
Over the past three years, we've featured sold-out screenings followed by Q&A sessions with history-making guests such as Claudette Colvin (at 15, Claudette refused to give up her bus seat to a white person [pre-dating Rosa Parks], and her lawsuit went on to challenge and end segregation on buses); and John Raines and Bonnie Raines (the Raineses broke into an FBI office in 1971, exposing J. Edgar Hoover's COINTELPRO program...they were never caught).
In addition, we've partnered with local organizations, such as The Thing in the Spring and Monadnock International Film Festival, to show free films and audience-awarded favorite films.
The theater is available for rent by nonprofits, schools, and individuals for fund-raisers, meetings, or private events (of course, only during days/times that we're not showing movies). We offer GMO-free popcorn, healthy snacks, and reasonably priced concessions such as boxed candy, sodas, and water.
We installed all-new seats (95 in the theater and 5 extras) last year and recently painted the lobby and bathrooms. New lighting fixtures were also recently installed, as well as new toilets, sinks, and hardware. There is an ADA-compliant bathroom in the lobby and seating for two wheelchairs in the theater. The largest municipal parking lot in Peterborough is located right outside of our front door and features over 40 spots.
The asking price is $85,000 and includes an NEC digital projector, a DVS system for the visual and hearing impaired (only one of four in the entire state of NH), a large movie screen, a 5.1 sound system, a new popcorn machine, professionally framed historical movie posters from the 1930s (specific to this theater), and all inventory and miscellaneous assets (cash register, tables, chairs, podium, etc.).
Hands-on training to the buyer will be provided, as well as a complete Operations Manual. All employees are looking forward to working with the new owner. Serious inquiries only, please. Thank you. Email inquiries to movies@pctmovies.com.
