Dersu Uzala
  • Mosfilm 1974
  • US distribution by Kino
  • 35mm SCOPE (originated in 70mm Super Sovscope)
  • 8 reels
  • mono
  • printed at CFI
Print is just a few months old and has not been plattered. Despite existence of lab cues at consistent (though nonstandard) distances from the tail, someone scribed in cues. Grr.
Leaders are full length. Neg edgecode is in Cyrillic. Neg edges have a horizontal mark every four perfs, but these do not correspond to frame lines. Very nice polyester print, but color is a bit too saturated in the oranges, like all 1970s Soviet color films that I've seen.

Only one new print exists, but I'm told there are some (much) older prints available too. Being circuited theater-to-theater.

Some 70mm six-track stereo prints were made. Not sure if any are currently available for screening (they'd probably be faded anyway). Some U.S. theatres ran them on a special screening basis in the late '70s and early '80s.

....this is a great film, in case you haven't seen it yet or even heard of it. Great story.
