Kurosawa film, aka Kakushi toride no san akunin. Reputed to be the main inspiration for Star Wars.

  • Distributor: Cowboy Pictures
  • 6 reels
  • Anamorphic Tohoscope 2.35:1
  • mono
  • Circuited theater-to-theater
Leaders say "PCL Sound System." Perspecta Controlled-Levels? Don't have a Perspecta decoder to check.
As usual with repertory titles, idiots have scratched in cue dots where lab cues are clearly visible. Most reels overfull, one mid-reel splice with accompanying lab cue leaves possibility of inaccurate reel count (more likely 1000-foot changeovers, though). Some scratches from a year in circulation, otherwise quite nice.

139 minutes uncut. Kodak black-and-white stock. Cowboy restruck all the Kurosawas they have rights to in 2002. Combined with the Winstar rerelease of Ran and the Kino restrike of Dersu Uzala, there are now lots of excellent Kurosawa prints in circulation.
