Neil Young: Heart of Gold (aka "Prarie Wind")
Paramount
Flat 1.66:1* hard matte
6 reels / 103 minutes
SR.D/DTS on Magenta
Deluxe lab

Leader in Feet
Credits in white run over picture until end

Note: all reel changes are fade-in/fade-out. The tails are marked accurately, but heads aren't at all. Count 47 frames from the 3' mark, or use an old leader as a gauge.

*This fits our 1.66 plates, but it having originated as a video source, it's likely meant to be cropped to 1.78 or more. No intrusions that I could see would prevent it being shown in 1.66 however.

Please note, the digital tracks, on this film have notable lip-sync issues. This can be particularly noticed in the opening shots while in a limo...some shots are out of sync, some are in...also the timbre changes from shot to shot. This sync issue has been verified over multiple prints and multiple projectors with both DTS and Dolby Digital (the analog seems better). Paramount has recommened to one of my customers to play in DTS for better sync.

When sound sync varies from scene-to-scene, the problem likely occured during sound editing and mixing, and not due to a lab error.

John,

I think this is a combination of sync issues during editing and they got the digital sound negatives out of sync since they are MORE affected. There is definately the appearance of losing cystal sync on some of the stuff as the sync varies.

One CAN have the sound sync off a little such that the sound lags the picture and people will not notice much...but if the sound preceeds the picture, the human brain can't comprehend that and it appears out of sync.
