Thurs. Jan. 31st, Cinemark 17, Springfield OR, 4:05PM, Theater 12, DTS, scope. Maybe 15 people. In French, with English subtitles. The print was in outstanding condition! Halfway thru I realized there were no reel change cue marks, and I didn't notice a single splice.

Not a good day for the mighty Cinemarkers. There was something very wrong with the sound. To me it sounded like something was being over-driven into audible distortion. The trailers were analog/optical and very distorted during anything loud. The movie seemed to be in DTS, but the audio still distorted sometimes. And the image, while bright, sharp, and steady, was "drooping" weirdly on the right. Wasn't normal keystoning -- It looked like someone grabbed the lower right corner of the image and pulled down on it. Notwithstanding the above, this is one beautifully-photographed movie.

The movie? Very odd, but still watchable. It takes place in late 18th or early 19th century France. There is a "beast" on the loose, terrorizing the populace. They think it's a wolf, but it's more than that. The King's men are stalking the beast, one of them accompanied by an American Indian who is a master of martial arts. Uh-huh. Plenty of mayhem, whores, politics, and general weirdness. All beautifully photographed as I said. Is it good? I would say "I'm not sure". It was definitely different.

I had the privlage of watching this last year at the Austin Film Festival. I put together most of the prints shown at the Arbor. This movie was a highlight for me last year, it just had everything. Bad ass beast, Pollitical conspiracy, sacrafice, nudity, and all out action. I recomend this to anyone who was bored with Crouching Tiger and wanted some story with the beautiful settings.

Only watch it in Dts, don't let some stupid manager tell you it is in sdds, A friend was told this and what he got was SR. Make sure to tell them to set it on seven and go for it.

i saw this as part of the french film festival which is touring australia. i am sure that this film will get a cinema release sometime this year.
i did enjoy this film, but it was way too long!.
there were a few moments in the film that were too corny and it really pulled the film down, they should have kept it serious and dark!. it was visually impressive, but i hate that fast editing on the fight scenes it's lazy!!.
i was a bit tired and i found myself falling asleep, so i might have enjoyed it more had i been more IN THE MOOD!
