1958. Starring Zsa Zsa Gabor, Eric Fleming, Laurie Mitchell. VHS, OK transfer, decent pan-and-scan job from the original CinemaScope image. Warner Bros. #15295. Running time 80 mins.

Synopsis: Eric Fleming (star of TV's Rawhide) leads a group of space jockeys whose ship is pulled via some kind of tractor beam to Venus. It turns out that Venus is inhabited entirely by women, and most of them (lead by the queen) hate men. The queen and her council members all wear masks which they never take off -- nobody has ever seen the queen's face. The queen is convinced that Earth is about to attack and conquer Venus, and plans to use her nearly-completed "Beta Disintegrator" weapon to destroy Earth. Meanwhile, Zsa Zsa Gabor is the leader of the underground resistance working against the evil queen.

This is an occasionally hysterically funny 50's B sci-fi flick that takes camp to a new level. The special effects, dialog, sets, etc. are mostly laughably bad. Not to mention the acting. Lots of lingering closeup shots of Zsa Zsa, who of course is the only inhabitant of Venus with a Hungarian accent. Eric Fleming starred with Clint Eastwood in Rawhide, which was a very good TV show. Eastwood seems to have made some better career choices when he made the transition to movies.

This is a good movie to see with a group of friends who appreciate campy 50's sci-fi.
