I've always thought that anyone who enjoys being on a movie set is insane. LOST IN LA MANCHA perfectly demonstrates all the reasons why. There is such a high level of stress involved with making a movie. So many things are left up to chance. I admire people who are able to work under those conditions, but I don't envy them.

LOST IN LA MANCHA does a great job of showing how Terry Gilliam's latest film died, but I don't know how great of a film it is on its own. It's good, but it's not as good as Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe's last movie, THE HAMSTER FACTOR AND OTHER TALES OF TWELVE MONKEYS. That picture is one the best stand-alone documentaries on the making of a film that I have ever seen. LOST IN LA MANCHA would be a suitable extra on the feature film's DVD (if the feature film existed).

I agree that it isn't the greatest documentary in the world, but the story that unfolds is pretty incredible. If you have ever worked on a film, this is a pretty painful thing to watch. Kust about anything that could go wrong on this film, did. I wouldn't rush out to the theater to catch this one, but it will definitely be woth a viewing on video.
