This morality play from director George Hickenlooper is a real treat. Byron Tiller (Andy Garcia) is a successful family man, but a failed writer whose work has yet to find an appreciative audience. He has a loving wife (beautifully played by Julianna Margulies) who adores him and his potential. When Byron’s next book fails to impress his publisher, Byron becomes anxious as to how he can support his loving family. His life takes a different turn when he happens to meet Luther Fox (Mick Jagger), the owner and operator Elysian Fields, an escort service for women. Out of desperation to support his family and his inability to admit his failure to his wife, Byron takes the road less traveled. Through this, he becomes a paid companion to the wife (Olivia Williams) of a Pulitzer Prize winning author (James Coburn).

This movie is very well scripted and performed. Coburn is perfect. Jagger was ingenious casting. There is a twist and turning consequence for every failed decision made by Byron. O. Henry could not have provided a better plot scenario. Well worth the watch if you like to think about choices we have to make in life.
