Man on man.. What have the Coen Brothers done?

While this film did have it's one liners, I'm sure I won't recommend it to anyone. I can see now just why BV was so skeptical in their release numbers. This is a film that will NOT play well to mixed audiences, IMO. Too many inuendos from what I saw.

I also found Tom Hanks to be rather, bland, for lack of a better word. Marlon Wayans & his casino boat co-worker were OVER THE EDGE with "fuck this & mother fuck that", which I found annoying VERY QUICKLY. This film will sink like a rock after Saturday.

Tonight was not a good screening night for me. I had three fat gooseggs IN A ROW.

2/5.

I haven't seen this nor do I plan to, but the commercials make the movie look AWFUL! The way Tom Hanks is acting in it looks so fake. He also looks like he should be serving me up some fried chicken with the way he appears in this movie. Seriously, when I first saw a commercial for this movie I thought it was going to be an epic biography on Colonel Sanders.

Good thing we have two prints of this...in the 6-plex (which _never_ gets more than one print of anything).

Damn bookers.

I actually liked the second half of this movie. But the parts of the first half were crap. Coen Bros seemed more intent on recreating the look and sound of a certain era and region than actually worrying about the narrative aspect of the movie. Exhibit One: the First church scene which was too long and pointless. when the black guy just keeps going on and on, i was wondering what the point was - To be funny? No! To give the movie some texture? No! Was it even interesting? No!.
Exhibit Two: The conversation between Hanks and the old lady before the sheriff shows up. Pointless. We have already established Hanks character and his amusing way of talking. Why bore us by overextending the joke. It seemed like the Coen Bros got too carried away by the few brilliant lines they gave Hanks that they forgot how to make the rest of his dialogue more interesting.

I hope the Coen Bros start to worry more about the movie aspect than trying to recreate old eras and old rural music. This movie is a DVD rental at best. Very inconsistent movie.

It's a remake, what did you expect? Of course it's not good.

This film doesn't deserve a long comment.

Too much dialogue, not enough plot. It just isn't funny.

I'm very disappointed. This is one of the worst Coen Brothers films.

I thought this movie was better than maybe the other reviewers here. I'm not a big follower of the Coen brothers, but I've enjoyed the comedy in "Fargo", "The Big Lebowski", and most recently "Intolerable Cruelty". There were comedic elements here that reminded me of "The Pink Panther" series. But like "The Big Lebowski", the movie is overloaded with unnecessary bad language. For that reason alone, I could not recommend it. That's a shame because good comedy deserves a wider audience. What a waste of talent.
