I built both of our copies and screened it tonight, in our #12 auditorium. This is our best sounding house, in my opinion (Dolby Digital, stadium seating).
- - - SPOILER INFO BELOW - - -
I thought the movie was pretty dang good! I just watched the first three Die Hard's about a week ago, so I was still in the "mood". I liked the idea of the hackers taking over the country and all of our important computer-controlled essential systems (traffic, electric, etc). Imagine if this actually happened, how much of a crisis we would be in! I am into computers a lot, and I thought the whole "hacker" atmosphere was very fun to watch and I really got into it, my hand fell asleep a few times while I watched it (I usually get a little restless and move around some while watching movies, rarely am I still like that for very long).
A few minor complaints:
- They should have followed suit and made this film rated "R". I would've enjoyed just a touch more violence, but more importantly I wanted to hear the F-word. Probably a smart move to PG-13 though, better shot at pulling in more money.
- Perhaps at least one shot of John's wife Holly would've been nice. What has she been up to for the last 12 years?
- The "Yippee-Kuy-Yay" scene in the movie is not the same as in the trailer! I saw it happen in the movie, then thought it might still come again, but it never happened.
Well, they didn't actually end the series. John shoots himself in the shoulder but we never see him die, so the door is still open, but I think this is a good place to end it. I mean, what is bigger than hackers taking over our country in order to get rich? Is it going to go international? It had a solid run.
7/10 stars

I've been a fan of the Die Hard films and I thought this movie was great, mostly due to the action sequences. The story line, well, it was good. I was sort of hoping it would be given an R-Rating, but, the movie was still great. I did build and screen the film, but, had to keep myself busy due to working at 12-hour shift. Luckily, I was able to watch it on opening day. I also loved the sound effects. It was presented in Dolby Digital in Theatre #10, our biggest auditorium. I did like the asian girl in the movie, especially when she did her Martial Arts. So, I give this movie 3.5 Stars out of 5 Stars for the action sequences.

CINEMA: Carmike Cobblestone 9, Urbandale, IA AUDITORIUM: 5 PRESENTATION: Christie DLP Digital (it's the mirrors) PRESENTATION PROBLEMS: Movie letterboxed on screen perfectly capable of opening wide (it's the curtains) RATING: Three stars (out of four)
12:00pm: Scheduled start time of show. We arrive and wait to buy our tickets behind a lady taking her kids to Ratatouille. "These tickets say 11:45, but we wanted the 12:00 show!" Manager: "It's fine. Just go into the 12:00 one." 12:01pm: Arrive in auditorium. Projector is still displaying still slides (yes, they STILL use them). 12:02pm: TV commercials start 12:09pm: (Wife #1) "What's up with the TV commercials?" Decides she has time to run to the rest room 12:13pm: Wife #1 returns with bottled water, just as the trailers start 12:22pm: (Wife #1) "Oh come ON!" 12:28pm: Feature starts. (Wife #1): "I should stand up and applaud."
I've been in this building three times this year. The first time (Hostel II) they started the TV commercials before the scheduled start time to align the beginning of the trailer package with the scheduled start time (the way Cinemark, AMC, and Regal do it). The second time (Ratatouille), they didn't run any commercials at all. We got the Christie trailer, the cheesy Carmike-produced "DLP is super neato" thing, and into the trailers.
THE PLOT: Some loose dialog surrounds an orgy of over-the-top action sequences. It's porn, yet NOBODY GETS LAID.
Quoting Wife #1: "Well...it's a Die Hard movie!"
