This is one powerhouse of a film, from Daniel Day Lewis and paul Dano's powerful performances to the eerie score and stunning cinematography. It especially resonated with me coming from Bakersfield (which is mentioned, although actually shot in Texas). Beneath the surface, this is a very political film, reflecting the synergy created by capitalism on one side, and religion on the other (not trying to ensue a discussion of either here ). PT Anderson has shown himself to be a true master of the film medium. This is a not-to-missed achievement.
Reciewed: Arclight Cinemas, Hollywood, 12-27-07, 10am. Show Print (hand-etched cues). Flawless presentation (and should be for the $14 admission price. They have this "holiday period" pricing in effect all the time through Jan 1.
