This film sort of fell through the cracks at Christmas time. This is a good movie with some excellent performances...one of the best ensemble casts in some time.

It is the story of Leonard Chess, an entrepeneur who started recording black singers in the '50's. Musical performances are first rate, especially Beyonce's version of ALL I COULD DO WAS CRY and Eamon Walkers wicked performance of SMOKESTACK LIGHTNIN'.

In fact, Eamon Walker's performance was one of the highlights of the film. This guy is just plain scary, and someone I would not want to mess with. He truly made the wolf howl!

All in all, a good film that was very enjoyable, and a nice break from the usual ultra-serious fare of January.

We give it a solid B+.
