Alamo Drafthouse One Loudoun, Ashburn, VA
September 1st, 3:30pm show
Theater #1
Presented in Sony 4K, Linear PCM 5.1
Issues: None

To be frank, Frank has to be one of the greatest movies of the year. Being a music lover, and having a keen interest in outsider music, it was almost like it was tailor-made for me. Think of the titular character as a mix between Daniel Johnston, Captain Beefheart and Jeff Mangum. In the movie, Frank's unpronounceable band records an album whose production is very eerily similar to that of Beefheart's "Trout Mask Replica." The difference being one is just a movie, and the other really happened!

There were very few patrons who came to the screening I went to, in one of the complex's smaller rooms. It is a shame not many people know about this gem, and I was thankful I lived near a theater that's playing it. The only other place showing Frank around my area was in D.C.

It's basically a film about being passionate whilst overcoming adversity, if I were to generally explain Frank to a person who never saw it.

RATING: 9 out of 10

I went into this movie knowing it was strange - and while it was, ultimately by the film's end and I was mulling it over a few hours after - the charm and uniqueness begins to settle in.

great cast, interesting music (notably at the end).
