This movie is getting an undeserved bad rap. It's absolutely hilarious! There are all kinds of little witticisms in both the foreground and the background that come and go non-stop; if you blink at the wrong moment you'll miss half of the fun.

I suspect that the reason for the bad rap is that the humour parodies social media and programming, and the audience who will understand those references (teens and twenty-somethings, and techies) are by and large too cool to go out and watch a cartoon at the theatre.

"Why did the bot stop chasing us?"
"It's malware, and this is a secure app."

I've seen reviews that complain because the characters are cliches. I think the reviewers missed the fact that they are emojis. That's part of the joke, folks.

The whole movie is loaded with parodies of things like Facebook, and Instagram and apps in general, as well as programming and hacking references. All of these programs and concepts are somehow made into physical objects in the silliest way imaginable.

The funniest moment in the whole movie is where the princess is trying to whistle a tune to the Twitter bird and finally gives up on the tune and whistles for it like she's hailing a taxi.

As with anything else, those who don't understand it won't like it. But if you're somewhat clued-up on social media and programming, it's a blast!
