This movie takes quite a while to get going because there's a lot of background to set up at the start and a lot of characters to be introduced.

Once it gets going it gets pretty darn good. Some of the scenes remind me of Race With the Devil, a 1975 Peter Fonda movie that has always been one of my favourite chase and conspiracy movies. There really isn't a conspiracy in Doctor Sleep but the cult, the motorhome caravans driving down the road in and the bad guys just kind of turning up here and there takes a lot from Race With the Devil.

Ultimately this is a pretty entertaining movie but it runs a bit long. Still quite exciting after the action gets underway, though.

I went in there with low expectations but wasn't entirely disappointing. I think it's a nice mix of Kubrick's legacy and Stephen King's kind of telling horror stories.

I was surprised they based the movie sequel to The Shining on Kubrick's interpretation, as I'd understood that Stephen King wasn't happy with Kubrick's interpretation. That's also why we got the awful miniseries produced by ABC back in 1997.
