For those in Ca. what concession items are subject to

sales tax.(soda, popcorn, candy, hot dog, pretzel, ice cream. ect.)

Start here. This may have most of what you're looking for. There's also a link that lists exempt items, though it indicates that food sold at a place where admission is charged is not exempt.

Most everything sold in a movie theatre in California is subject to sales tax with the exception of popcorn. And popcorn is a gray area. If your operation meets certain conditions, then your sales of popcorn may be exempt from sales tax. You can thank Century Theatres for taking on the Board of Equalization. It is always nice when big companies with expensive lawyers do something that even benefits the little guys. Search for Century Theatres vs. Board of Equalization on the BOE website for details of the ruling.
