When I looked in on Film-Tech last night I got this on the main page...

>>Click Here for the DISCOUNT WHOLESALE LONGDISTANCE RATES! Under 5cpm!

Click Here for the best PORN!<<

I clicked but nothing happened...(well, except for the long distance rates thing)

Did I panic when I couldn't get my Film-Tech fix? Naaaahhhhhhhh.....!

Hey that page is only supposed to show up on Ian's browser!

Just kidding. I didn't see that page last night or at all yesterday. Interesting.

Damnit Joe, now Ian knows I am feeding him a special version of Film-Tech.

I have no idea where that long distance/porn thing came from. I haven't seen it (and no I'm not offering those services).

By the way, I'm moving this to Film-Yak.

Actually I'm sure that the pages you saw had nothing to do with Film-Tech. I have seen instances of browser cache that will make your head spin. And if you use a proxy server, well it has its own cache as well! Could have just gotten the DNS numbers mixed up and given you the wrong cache... who knows?

From the resident film-tech.com DNS dweeb: I haven't touched the zone files for film-tech.com since 1/31/01. If there are any DNS issues here, they are not with my servers, but rather with someone else's ISP. If anyone else sees this, please have your ISP's hostmaster look into this and, if necessary, call me (the phone number is on my web page).

Dang. I just get the plain vanilla page, and I just _love_ killing spammers and other internet no-goods. Any chance you got to film-tech last night by using a particular search engine? (hope hope)

Scott, how about a quick link to a site on how DNS servers work and how things can get redirected?

The best DNS reference is the book "DNS and BIND" published by O'Reilly and Associates. ISBN 1-56592-512-2. This should be available at your local bookstore.

How DNS works is defined by RFC1035: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1035.txt

The actual implementation that most sites (including mine) are running is BIND 8, which is distributed by the Internet Software Consortium; the BIND documentation is available for download from: ftp://ftp.isc.org/isc/bind/src/8.2.3/bind-doc.src.tar.gz (this is a gzipped tar file; you'll need a copy of gzip and a copy of tar in order to read this)

For a quick overview, try: http://www.everything2.com/ and search for "DNS"

Nope...no search engines...sorry...just the way I always do. It had a page titled www.film-tech.com/f69com from memory. An error message saying the page never existed also appeared.

Never mind...all's well now...

...although I'm a bit concerned about Ian.
