Here is a current e-mail discussion we've been having. You can see that we've both got over this and put it behind us!It would be the NorthStar.
It was an interesting twin that had some merit in some of its design but
was unexciting
To bad about the capitol
The (the large speakers) Altec A4's have little value now as the drivers
will most likely be shot from damp and corrosion. THey aslso required a lot
of upgradeing for digital.
Famous is usually pretty destructive when they pull out
I had to reinstall a theatre they pulledout of
they cut all the wireing at the edge of conduits so we couldn't reuse it or
even pull it out to reuse the conduit in the walls
My favorite as per a post a while ago was the grantpark when it was a D150
cineramma single screen
It had one f the largest screens in Western Canada at about 72" wide. It
was also a strip screen to prevent crossreflections
WHen we took the equipment out when it was made into a plex it had
Norelco (kinoton) DP75's with Orcon 4K lamphouse and a Dolby CP200
I remember seening I think Gremlins there on a service call once

Which old cinema? The other twins I believe were the Northstar and I'm not
sure about the Colony. The Garden City was also a twin. The Metropolitan
was a block away and it was just a single screener.
About the Capitol, I was just in it in August on a special private tour.
No one is allowed in anymore, nto even city councillors. The whole place
is falling apart. There's no stained glass or anything. Famous Players
carted off the screens, projectors, seats, toilets and even some elctrical
outlets and switches. They did leave the huge speakers that sit behind the
screens.
The twining was not well done at all. I have pictures and we're looking at
scanners today. I'll try to get them up on Film-Tech soon!

Yes back in 86
At that time I believe it had Victroia 8 projectors downstairs and Simplex
XL's upstairs
THe sound if I remember was a CP100 downstairs with altec amps
The automation was showman 2
THe twinning if I remember correct was not well done
Also wasn't there some stained glass on the walls
I remeber the other twin better that famous had ,it had Vic8's with towers
in nboth booths

Gordon,
You said that you had been to the Garrick theatre a couple of times... I
was just wandering if you ever went to the Capitol, an old Famous Players
house...
Right now... a demelition is planned for spring!
