I just recieved my latest Box Office Magazine and in it there is a piece on the Passing of Ted Mann in January. Ted Mann was the Founder of Mann Theatres and started out in Minnesota where I believe one of his brothers has a small chain also called Mann theatres, butthey are not affilliated with one another. The article states that Ted had a huge chain in the Early to Mid 60's that strecthed from the Midwest to Washington D.C. and sold it to GCC in the late 60's. I wonder how many of these theatres are still open. . In the early 70's he moved to L.A. to work in another area of film he enjoyed, but it was not long before the theatre bug bit him again and he purchased the ill failing Natinoal General Theatre Chain and quickly renamed all of them Mann Theatres. At the Time Mann sold this chain off in 1986 to Paramounts parent comapny, he had over 500 screens in 6 states, including AZ, TX, UT, ID. He was 74 years old .
