An excerpt from Enjoy The Music News........

"We are saddened to report that on January 31st Henry Kloss passed away at age 72. While he was co-founder of the current Cambridge SoundWorks company, his well respected work within the field of audio is legendary. While many consider him a true visionary, Henry was probably responsible for developing and commercializing more audio designs than any single person. Along with Henry Kloss' many industry "Firsts," Henry was a founder of Acoustic Research, KLH Research and Development Corporation, and Advent. Henry Kloss is a member of the Audio Hall of Fame and an Emmy Award winner. He was also a member of the Boston Audio Society (BAS). A few of his accomplishments/inventions include:
-- 1952 First Acoustic Suspension Speaker (The AR-1)
-- 1960 First High-Fidelity FM Table Radio (The KLH Model Eight)
-- 1961 First High-Fidelity Transportable Stereo System (The KLH Model)
Eleven
-- 1968 First Tape Recorder with Dolby B Noise Reduction (The KLH Model 40)
-- 1971 First High-Fidelity Cassette Deck (The Advent 200/201)
-- 1972 First Big Screen Colored TV For Home Use (The Advent VideoBeam 1000)
-- 1988 First Dual-Subwoofer/Satellite Speaker System (Ensemble)
-- 1998 First Table Radio With Built-In Powered Subwoofer (Model 88)"

I had the good fortune of attending the very first Advent Videobeam 1000 repair school ever held. Aside from the training on the then new TV projector we were given guided tours of all the factories Advent was operating at the time. It was quite amazing to say the least. He was really quite the visionary.

Advent VideoBeam 1000....I owned six of them which I did rentals
when they first came out to the middle 1970's. We did rentals for NASA including the Soyez mission with a gathering which included
Werner Von Braun....military video tapes via 3/4' decks where we where asked to leave the room due to the classified nature of the material. We did five shows with Uri Geller in which we had a close up video camera on his hands and two VideoBeams on stage to show that
he was not a fake ( he can bend keys at arm length and at a group dinner one evening, read everyone's mind to A- level ). I customized two of the units to operate a 80 seat cinema ( we call it "predigital" cinema ); the source was two 3/4" decks with a changeover system ( 50HZ cue on audio ) to provide 12 hour a day performance ( and did so for two years - Columbus, Georgia - pre-Carmike ). I had a couple of opportunities to talk to the man who seem to be mentally enjoying himself doing what he did....It was a fun period and the last unit expired not from our rough use but a fork-lift blade at Eastern Airlines Cargo terminal in Tampa, Florida.
