Apparently, scientists have managed to create remote-controlled rats which are capable of doing tasks in confined areas which would not be possible with mechanical robots.
Actual quote from the article: "I certainly don't think it would be a good idea to put these in primates, or especially in humans"
I couldn't make this stuff up. Bob Maar probably couldn't, either.

That just reminds me of many funny "Pinky and the Brain" episodes for some reason. Now the Pied Piper doesn't even need a flute, just a remote control.

Best to keep this quiet as the chains will be purchasing these to replace their technicians!

They've been using rats to pull cable through buildings for years.

They train the rats to come to the sound of somebody tapping on the end of a metal conduit. Then they tie the "leader" string to the rat's tail and stick him in the pipe. Then somebody else taps on the other end of the conduit. A couple minutes later, out comes the rat! They untie the leader string, give the rat a treat and start pulling cable.

The neat thing is that the rat always takes the shortest distance from point "A" to point "B". So, when the rat chooses his route through the maze of conduits he instincitvely minimizes the length of the run.
