Thats right children. Director Roland Emmerich and Producer Dean Devlin have announced that thier script for ID4:2 is complete and they are now in the process of signing back the original cast. No release date is set at this time, but FOX has greenlighted the project to be produced full speed ahead.

I wonder if the aliens have installed a firewall or Antivirus software on their computer system since the first film came out? They could travel through intersteller space, but they sure didn't know one damn thing about network security.

In my opinion both the Will Smith and Jeff Goldbloom characters should be dead. I mean they beat it into our brains that the mother ship in space controled all the ships around earth, including the one they used to destroy the mother ship. So when the mother ship went down nothing on the ship they were in should have worked no life support no shields no control. Crash bang thru the atmospher into the ground all dead.

ID4 was pretty good up until the point where Will Smith decked the alien. From then out it was just stupid. However, I smell another $100M opening weekend possibility.

Didn't they brag about finishing the script to the first film in only a month? Including re-writes? After seeing the end result, I wondered what had taken them so long.

Randy Quaid was about the only guy I liked in the first one, and I think they may have a difficult time fitting him into the next story.

In reply to Darryl Spicer's post that both Will Smith's and Jeff Goldblum's characters should be dead since the mother ship in space controlled all other spacecraft: If I recall correctly, the mothership was only connected to the other ships in some kind of network. (The one without firewall) It did not control them.
They infect the mothership which in turn infects all other ships disabling their shields. This enables the human missiles to penetrate the shields and destroy all the ships.
Anyway, I really hope the aliens will purshase Norton for the sequal.

I am glad to see I'm not the only one here that saw "the number 1
movie in the country" and thought it stunk.

I know I could edit ID4 down to 60 minutes, and it might be better.

Don't give them any ideas. A "trimmed down" version of Apollo 13 is now being released in IMAX. Could a trimmed down version of Independence Day be far behind?

If Will Smith cared anything about advancing his career, he would stay as far away from this as possable. Though I suspect that there was a sequel clause in his original contract being that he wasn't exactly a movie star back then.

This movie is begging not to be made.

I bet Will Smith is indeed under contract to do this.
