Growing up in england, football was part of everyday life for me and now after 21 years of living in australia it's unfortunatly become a part time hobby. Until recently australia had never really embraced football (called soccer in oz), after coming close to getting into the world cup finals on the last two occasions and the growth of our national league, the interest has grown significantly and with it my interest has risen.
well, i just saw the england game (vs sweeden) and cant believe that england escaped with a draw , england are a crap team with a few great players , their tactics are negative to say the least and appear to panic when the ball comes near them. I saw the argentina game (vs nigeria) and thought argentina played great football and were unlucky not to have scored more goals , their goalkeeper was impressive!.
This competition has only just started and i look forward to seeing some more teams play before i pick my winner!

Soccernet is wall-to-wall World Cup throughout the tournament. If you get it in English click on "fixtures" for the complete schedule. You can even put a few quid down on your favorite side!

USA have their first match Wednesday vs. Portugal.

England's first game was a poor result and no doubt they will crash out by the end of the week!

Apparently we (Canada) sent you a player who hails from Calgary Alberta. Heargraves I think it was. Seems his dad was a Brit. Hey, so was my mom, can I play? What else can that get me?

Yes! I caught that one live on TV this AM. Exciting match. I coached High School Soccer for 17 years while teaching, and was an NJSIAA official for 15 years. It got into my blood almost as much as projection.

This World Cup turning out to be a doozy. First France/Senegal.. then US beating heavily favored Portugal. South Korea winning and looking very good at it, some great great goals and teamplay, too bad about timezones .

South Korea 1 - 1 USA

Great work by the American keeper to hold the co-host nation to a draw.

Dick V: You weren't aware Beckham redeemed himself after being sent off in France in '98?

Charles

Beckham redeemed himself long before the finals , especially when he scored the winning goal against Germany in the qualifiers.

Even better news this morning France have just been knocked out and are on their way home.

England drew and are through to the second round.

Argentina -- the pre-tournament favorite to hoist the Cup -- drew and crashed out.

USA go through with a win or draw Friday vs. Poland. (Split loyalty here; I'm Polish on my mother's side.)

Poland 3 - 1 USA

BUT . . . South Korea 1 - 0 Portugal

Portugal were 2 men down for most of the 2nd half and crashed out.

THUS USA are through to the second round.

Knockout play starts tomorrow (6/15) with Germany vs. Paraguay and Denmark vs. England. USA face Mexico on 6/17.
