Does anyone have an audio clip (MP3 or WAV) of the "Special Ed" call from Crank Yankers? I found a Real Video on Comedy Central's website, but I want a .wav file to use as my new mail notification sound! Or, do you know how to extract the audio from a video file and save it as just an audio file?

I use the SAW program, but my version will not do MP3's. But that program is expensive. I *think* you can configure most sound card programs to record "what you hear" if set up properly. However, it can be a real pain in the backside unless you have dual monitor screens. If you are using a single monitor, you might have to start the recording mode first, and let it do its thing. Then start your AVI file to record the sound, and then go back and edit all the crap out of it that you don't want after you finished recording.

Since I am not a computer geek, I might be doing it the hard way. Some of the guys and gals on FT that are more computer savvy than I am might know of an easier way.

Just record the Real video using your audio out from your computer and record the file on your MiniDisc. You do have MiniDisc, correct? Then just play the MiniDisc back into your computer as a WAV file. OR if you have a full duplex sound card like I do just connect a mini to mini audio cable from your audio out to your audio in port and record with your very favorite audio program!!!!!!!!!!!

I could connect the MD, but that would be a pain. I'll try the other way you mentioned. I didn't know you could do that. I have to dig out my mini-to-mini cable, I have one somewhere.

P.S. MiniDisc rocks! How many other people are fans of the format?

I love both of my MD players (home audio deck and a portable). Coupled with the optical jacks on my SoundBlaster Audigy, it sure beats the hell out of a portable MP3 player. I keep one at the theatre for those long nights doing all of that boring paperwork stuff.

1/4" reel-to-reel on a Nagra recorder all the way! Sounds better than MD and the Nagra machines are beautiful examples of Swiss engineering (imagine if Rolex made tape recorders instead of watches...).

Alternatively, 16mm or 35mm mag.

Yeah but it doesn't sound as good as DVD-Audio. So there!

Anyway what is so great about Rolex watches? Are they accurate? I imagine so. Of course I was never one for fancy watches. All they do is advertise "I have money" and then people target you to mug or rob.

Ok...this is a little on topic...

On a Macintosh (ok Joe, that is your cue)...what is the best way to record 4 hours of "real audio"? Can the Mac actually record it on the hard drive? If so, how much space would 4hours take up? My goal is to record a radio show, then spit that out of the computer onto CDs/cassette tapes for use in the car.

I use Mac's (OS 9 and OS X) but I've never thought of recording an internet radio program directly to the hard drive.

If you are using OS 9 then you might try tricking the SimpleSound application by looping the speaker output back into the mic input (deactivate "play through"). I wonder if that would work...?

I usually just record to MiniDisc or to CD-R, depending on where I'll be playing the program.
