At cinemas I have visited I often see odd combinations, an old Kalee12 with a modern square box style xenon and a platter, for example.

What is the oddest combination you have seen? Has anyone installed a digital sound head on a 1930s projector for example, or a DLP projector next to a still-working Brenograph? Photographs most welcome.

Some years ago, at the same event where I saw the Vistavision projected, Dion Hanson had set up an old projector, a Gaumont, I think, which had both a Vitaphone stlye turntable and an optical sound head. To these he had added an RCA mag penthouse, CDS, SR-D, SDDS and DTS readers, and then bolted the spool box back on top. I seem to remember that the thing stood about nine feed high, and needed some extra metalwork around the back to stabilise it. Sadly, I don't have a picture. This one was only for show of course, you couldn't actually use it.

In May this year I installed a Barco DLP D-Cinema at an old single screen theatre turned into a three screen cinema, the DLP is in the downstair booth which is the large original screen, the upstair booths which was the balcony now a two screen, has Simplex E-7 projectors, Old RCA soundheads that had non-removeable gearboxs, with converted Peerless Carbon lamps into Xenon lamps...these screens was not yet running when I finish the DLP install, I was just looking at these booths, not installing or servicing them, So the have the old with the new !!
