Within my memory, certainly until the late '60s, possibly later, London was split into North and South for film releases; films would open in North London one week, then in South London the next, previously, before my time, there had been three areas, North east, North West, and South. I assume that the same prints were moved from one area to the other at the end of the week, (it was rare for a film to be held over for a second week in the same area), otherwise I can see no point in doing it. Was this done in other cities?
