I am going to a Mannheim Steamroller concert in a couple weeks and I've just watched their DVD. They have huge projected images which (according to the DVDs productions notes) measure a total of 40'h x 180'w. Does anyone here know what kind of equipment they use. I know that to capture their concert videos they typically use 24 35mm film cameras, so I would imagine that they also use some sort of film setup for the projected images (in the production notes the projection format was referred to as MMD).

Hey John P! Would you happen to know what type of film stock(s) they used?

Sounds like Micro Mirror Device, the name TI give to their chips used DLP projectors, and also some standar definition (62e5/525) line video projectors.

Sounds like a sort of overgrown video wall system. Is it one large image, or a montage of small images.

Lucky! I had a chance to go to a Mannheim Steamroller concert last year and turned it down because it was on the opening night of Harry Potter I.

If I were you I would send my question to the Mannheim STeamroller people directly. They have always been very nice about responding, although I have never asked a tech question.

It's 3 large images. 2 projected on either side of the stage and a third projected onto a scrim at the front of the stage.

I'm pretty sure it's a film projection because in shots from closer to the stage the portion of the image visable is very clear and has that sort of dim, aiming-a-camera-at-a-movie-screen look.
