Ah, a good thread to praise some businesses:
Gigaparts (Huntsville, AL):
The last time I bought a new computer, I went to a local place called GigaParts. They built me an AMD Athlon 1900 system with which I'd had no problems.
Last week, I bought a USB 2.0 card since I have two portable drive enclosures that provide a USB 2.0 interface to standard IDE drives. After using these drives (128 GB and 120 GB) at work with USB 2.0 with no difficulties, I went to GigaParts and bought a USB 2.0 card, since USB 1.x was just too slow for these drives on my home machine. As soon as I tried to write to a drive in USB 2.0 mode, the machine locked. I went back to GigaParts and told them of the problem -- they exhanged the card for another which did not resolve the problem. I then took the system with a USB 2.0 drive to them. In short, the technician that worked on my system spent a good bit of time trying to make the card work (by working with the device drivers and putting it in different PCI slots) before "flashing" the BIOS, which fixed the system. They didn't charge me anything. I expected to pay an hours' worth of labor.
Here's the best part -- when I got there to pick up my computer, the technician had my hsvmovies.com WWW page up and was asking me questions about film formats (35mm and IMAX and such). While showing him my "Vistavision" diagram, I explained that IMAX was like that, but about twice as wide, and 15 performations per frame. I apologized to him for not having any 65mm diagrams on the page. While talking to him, I "torture tested" the USB 2.0 drive, by copying 2 GB of data to it while playing an MP3 stored on it. It's worked fine.
I gave the guy $30 since I felt he deserved something for his efforts and was getting no money. Some dishonest shops could have charged several hours labor and charged for parts that were not faulty. They didn't. I get the impression that this shop is honest and I'll definitely continue to do business with them and recommend them to others.
Rosies Mexican Cantina (Huntsville, AL, 2 locations):
For several years, once a week, people from where I work, along with other friends, have gone to this Mexican restaurant. There are now two of them, both of which have equivalent food and service. The consistency and quality of both the food and service have been outstanding ever since the first location opened several years ago. This is the Regal River Oaks Cinema 8 of restaurants in my area.
Longhorn Steak House (Huntsville, AL):
A couple of friends and I have been going to this steak house a couple of times a month on Sunday nights and have had excellent food. The service has been very good as well.
Green Hills Grille (Huntsville, AL):
This restaurant opened in 1992 and is one of the best restaurants in the area. Food is typically excellent and so is the service. I try to go there at least once a month.
Regal River Oaks Cinema 8 (Decatur, AL):
Best movie presentation quality/consistency in the Huntsville/Decatur area.

I enjoy eating dinner in many different restaurant's in New York but like Evans we have a Rosa Mexicana on First Avenue in New York that has the best Mexican food. Better than in Mexico itself. The Guacomole is to die for. Top of the Beekman Tower's on 49th and First has the best views with great dining and of course chilled Gibson's.
I also like to buy from the Mom & Pop stores that NY has a ton of-and these are hard working people and in the neighborhoods they are like family.
I love going to the museums, Broadway Shows, and Comedy clubs and of course Movies. Unless of course Walker Texas Ranger is on TV then I stay home and put it on both TV's so I won't miss a bit of Cordell Walker(better know as Chuck Norris) fighting for right and justice.
Continue to watch this post as I will update from time to time.
When in Newport - Rhode Island Catch The Saucy Sylvia Show at The Hyatt Regency on Goat Island and you can all come and hear me sing. I'll be the one drinking the Maartini's.
Evans: I did not think the restaurants had the same owners just a similar name.
Brad: I would bet that there are many people in Dallas who like and appreciate "Chuck Norris". I know you ae only putting me on. I know you askedJoe Redifer and Dwayne Caldwell and James R. Hammonds Jr. to agree with you. But the truth be known and you polled www.film-tech.com members I would guess that 87.75 per cent will agree with my point of view. Oh! Yes and by the way, my vote counts for_____%. I will fill in the blank when I see the results of the poll.
In Newport - The Canfield House Restaurant is spectaular. The food is superb. It overlooks the U.S. Tennis Hall of Fame. Originally, it was built as a Casino for the the Vanderbilts, Whitney's, Astor's in Newport where the Rich and Famous built their summer cottages. Cole Porter also wrote many of his songs in Newport.
If any of you run into Chuck Norris tell him he is more than welcome in New York,NY or Newport, RI or even Newtown, CT where I work.
